Bloggers have questions to: Here the writer of the Anvil of Time went to the Sybase Community Forums to ask the following question : "I'm writing a generic datawindow processor service to look at the controls on any given datawindow. I'm using the Getobjectatpointer method to give me the name of the current control (dwo.Name can be used as well) but I can't get anything for a single control."

Here's a question that popped up recently on Tek-tips, but in fact finds its answer in a 2005 Google Groups post. It's about changing the screen resolution at the start up of a PowerBuilder application. "Is it possible to automate (in powerbuilder application), changing the screen resolution???For example, I wish to change the res to 768*1024 when my program starts, and back to original??res when exits."

Here's another older but interesting post on Stackoverflow about what ressources are available for those who are not very familiar with PowerBuilder. "I'm recently working in a company where we use PowerBuilder extensively. The only documentation or resources we have access to is some basic course saying things like "Do A, then B and you'll get C". I was wondering if there is some better crash courses or tutorials for this language on the net or somewhere else which actually explain something instead of simply taking me by the hand."

There were a number of answers to this question ranging from books to online tutorials, you can check out the full list here.

This is day 5 of the 100 days of PowerBuilder and its helping to organise PBLs. "... Establishing a uniform structure to the contents of your PBLs which applies across the applications you develop is much more important in terms of lessening the learning curve for new developers and improving maintenance activities. Most applications which are at least ten years old have a hodge-podge of PBLs loosely organized at best. Many may have had better structure but over time entropy took control, especially when the initial developers moved on to something else, and there was no longer anything other than individual discipline keeping things organized. The two types of sturctures I advocate are Object Centric and Module Centric."
